Directed by Victor Sjöström, The Wind is a haunting drama about a young woman from the East Coast who moves to West Texas to start a new life and subsequently faces the challenges of climate and community. It was the last silent film Lillian Gish made and is considered one of the star’s finest performances. The orchestra will premiere an original score by Alain Mayrand, whose film credits include Enders Game and Elysium. Come early and stay late to meet the composer!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Alain Mayrand is a composer who combines a unique, fresh and flexible musical voice with a golden age level of craftsmanship. Named ‘Composer to Watch” by L.A.’s Film Music Magazine, Alain’s score for “No Letting Go” recently won an Accolade award for scoring excellence. His score for “Frog” won best score and his score for the Jackie Chan animated feature “The Legend of Silk Boy” was the best reviewed indie soundtrack of the year.
Also an accomplished orchestrator and conductor, Alain has worked on blockbusters , “Ender’s Game”, “Elysium”, as well “What Happened to Monday” “Dead Snow II” and the TV series “Olympus”.
Alain is a multi instrumentalist and highly trained composer with a high level of skill and broad musical experience giving him a versatile musical voice perfectly at home in the world of films.
He has tackled successfully a high number of genres including animation and fantasy (The Legend of Silk Boy), drama (No Letting Go, Primary), coming-of-age (Frog) action (Numb, Evil Feed) and horror (Comforting Skin.)
Recently, Alain composed the orchestral music for the high profile Olympic Ring Ceremony in Montreal for the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Alain spent four years as Composer-in-Residence with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. And beyond his mastery of the orchestra, Alain is also a multi-instrumentalist, playing the piano, cello, flute, classical and electric guitar.
