About the Artists
Ben Masters, film director
Ben Masters is a filmmaker and writer specializing in wildlife and adventure stories. He is most known for directing Deep in the Heart: A Texas Wildlife Story, The River and The Wall (SXSW 2019 Award Winner) and for producing Unbranded (Mountainfilm 2015 Audience Award Winner). Masters studied wildlife biology at Texas A&M University and founded Fin and Fur Films in 2012. He is the author of two books published by Texas A&M University Press and has written for National Geographic and Western Horseman. A proud Texan, Masters loves riding a good horse through new country, filming wildlife stories that haven’t been documented before, and using movies to help conserve wildlife and wild places.
Noah Sorota, composer
Composer Noah Sorota lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Over the years, he’s contributed to many television and film projects like Resident Alien (SyFy), Tommy (CBS), Amazing Stories (AppleTV), Reverie, and Falling Skies to name a few. He has composed the scores for Fin and Fur’s own feature films The American Southwest, Deep in the Heart, The River and the Wall, and Unbranded. As a conductor, he has led orchestras in London and Los Angeles, recording in renowned studios such as Abbey Road, Fox, Sony, Warner Brothers, as well as Ocean Way in Nashville, TN. In addition to composing, Noah has performed as a featured violin soloist on major productions including Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers, the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and HBO’s Game of Thrones. He is also active in the concert hall scene writing pieces for orchestra, choral, or chamber ensembles. Noah often merges cinematic storytelling with orchestral tradition, delivering dynamic scores that support narrative and emotional depth. With a broad portfolio spanning studio TV, film, streaming, and games, he maintains a strong presence across media formats.
Richard McKay, music & artistic director
Richard McKay is a conductor of the symphonic and operatic repertory across the United States, Europe and South America. An established leader in the vibrant Dallas arts community, his recent performances have been hailed by critics as “spellbinding,” “finely paced,” and “perfectly shaped” (D Magazine and The Dallas Morning News).
McKay has worked with the Baltimore Symphony and Dallas Symphony, where he has assisted conductors Günther Herbig, Carlos Kalmar, Jaap van Zweden, and many others. He has led performances at the Aspen Music Festival where he was a fellowship conductor at the American Academy of Conducting. McKay has also conducted the Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera Orchestra, Irving Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Mendoza Symphony, Estonian National Youth Symphony, and others. Other program highlights have included successful collaborations with Texas Ballet Theater and Bruce Wood Dance.
McKay holds a doctorate from the Peabody Conservatory where he trained with Gustav Meier, Markand Thakar, and Marin Alsop while serving as assistant conductor and chorus master of the Peabody Orchestras and Opera. He graduated with a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from The University of Texas at Austin, where he conducted performances at the Butler Opera Center and served as Music Director of the University Orchestra.
