About the Artists
Jim Stopher, conductor
Jim Stopher maintains an active career as a conductor, pianist, composer, and educator. Praised for his “brilliant” conducting and “energetic and precise” piano playing, he is based in Marin County, CA, and is a dedicated contributor to its musical culture.
Stopher has served as Music Director of the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra for seven seasons, and previously served in the same role with the Joliet (IL) Symphony Orchestra. As a pianist, he performs regularly as recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist; recent concerto engagements have been with the Mill Valley Philharmonic, the Lucas Valley Chamber Orchestra, and the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra. His compositions have been performed by the Sebastian Chamber Orchestra, the Navitas String Quartet, and the Golden Gate Brass Band. In 2018, he released an album of original piano music called Tonal Recall.
Stopher studied music theory and composition at Harvard University, orchestral and opera conducting at the University of Arizona, and conducting at the Peabody Conservatory, where he earned his doctorate under Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar. He is chairperson of the music department at the College of Marin, where he teaches courses in theory, repertoire, history, and musicianship.
Yi-Chen Feng, pianist
Pianist Yi-Chen Feng is the recipient of numerous prizes from competitions such as the New York Liszt International Piano Competition, the Grand Canal International Piano Art Festival, the San Jose International Piano Competition, and the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition. Feng made his Carnegie debut in 2022, performing Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with Orchestra of St. Luke’s at the Stern Auditorium. He is the first prize winner of the first International Maestro Piano Competition in Taiwan, earning concert engagements and a record deal with the Universal Music Group label for the 2021-2022 season.
A vivid concert pianist, Feng has been featured in various venues as a soloist, including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Saint John’s Cathedral in Denver, National Recital Hall and Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts in Taiwan, the Hangzhou Grand Theater in China and the Galerie dorée de la Banque de France in Paris.
Feng has participated in prestigious festivals, including Art of the Piano, the Banff Center, the Oxford Piano Festival, and the Chautauqua Music Festival. He has participated in masterclasses with Angela Cheng, Alexander Kobrin, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Awadagin Pratt, James Giles, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, John Perry, and Matti Raekallio.
Originally from Taiwan, Feng began his piano studies at the age of seven. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at the Peabody Conservatory, Master of Music and Artist Diploma degree at the Yale School of Music where he studied with Boris Slutsky. Feng is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at the San Francisco Conservatory under the tutelage of Yoshikazu Nagai.
Seho Young, pianist
Bostonian pianist Seho Young is a rapidly emerging international artist, whose playing has been described as “very intelligent and mature, […] thoughtful and polished” by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans. Seho is an acclaimed performer, having won first prize and the chamber music award at the 2022 Charles Wadsworth Competition and third prize at the 28th New Orleans International Piano Competition. He has appeared with the Louisiana Philharmonic, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Brockton Symphony Orchestra, and the Princeton University Orchestra. Recently he was invited to present a recital of all American composers for The Bohemians New York Musicians’ Club at the Kosciuszko Foundation, and was featured in Tulane University’s Concert Piano Series. Hosted by the International Holland Music Sessions, he performed across Europe at iconic venues including the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philharmonic Hall in Bratislava. He has studied with James Giles, Boris Berman, Francine Kay, Yoheved Kaplinsky, and Wha Kyung Byun, and has performed in masterclasses for Stanislav Ioudenitch, Jeffrey Kahane, William Naboré, and Maria Joao Pires. In addition to piano, he is also a passionate chamber musician and harpsichordist Seho holds degrees from Princeton University and Yale University, and is currently pursuing his doctorate at Northwestern’s Bienen School of Music.
Seho is also a passionate composer and arranger, having written works for piano, orchestras, acapella groups, film, and musical theater. He is a competitive ultimate frisbee player, chess and Brazilian jiu-jitsu enthusiast, and life-long supporter of the New England Patriots.
Adam Jackson, pianist
Adam Jackson was born in the UK and began piano studies at the age of 7 when he moved with his family to the US. In 2017, Adam was accepted into the Kaufman Music Center High School, began studies with renowned pianist Orli Shaham in early 2018 and entered Juilliard Pre-College in 2019.
Adam has performed with orchestras including the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio in Poznan, Poland, the Siletz Bay, Oregon Festival Orchestra, the New York Chamber Players, the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, and the Symphony of Westchester.
Adam has performed solo recitals in the US, UK and Poland. He has participated in master classes with Richard Goode, Mikhail Voskresensky, Alexandre Moutouzkine, Boris Slutsky, and Ilana Vered.
At the age of 11, Adam won 1st prize in the Under-16 category at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, appearing live on British television. In 2017, Adam won the International Young Musicians competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Wales, second prize in the Leschetizky International Concerto Competition, and third prize in the Kaufman International Youth Piano Competition, New York. In 2019, Adam won 1st place in the Special Music School Concerto Competition.
Adam has attended summer festivals including, the 2018 Morningside Music Bridge at Fryderyk Chopin University, Warsaw, the 2019 “Music@Menlo” Chamber Institute, California, and studied with Arie Vardi and Hung-Kuan Chen at the 2022 Aspen Music Festival.
Adam is pursuing piano performance studies at The Juilliard School of Music under the tutelage of Profs. Orli Shaham and Julian Martin.
